Volkswagen Type 18A Papler Polizei Cabrio 4 door Price: 144900 The Volkswagen Type 18A is a limited production variant of the Volkswagen Type 1 made for the police, fire department and ambulance that started production in 1949. Four different types of Polizei Cabriolet were made by Karmann, Hebmüller (mostly used four cloth doors) Papler (based in Köln, which differed in having four steel doors) and Austro-Tatra which also used steel doors Only 200 x built in 1951/1952 With only 8 known VW Type 18A Papler Cabrio survived we can definately say we have something rare for sale. Probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to obtain one of the rarest bugs in the world. This was in a private collection for over 30 years (Herman Walter). It has never been restored This is an ex Police car and once it went out of service it went into private ownership. As a police car it has been repaired a couple of times, its engine was changed a couple of times and it shows it marks of being in the service. Great car to make technical ready and drive as is or the perfect base car for a correct restoration. I would leave it untouched and keep its story alive, but thats up to the buyer what to do with it. Yes it is a lot of money, but lets be happy that there is an opportunity to buy a Papler. That alone is something special and probably wont happen in a while anymore. It has German papers. The engine is not the first one, the body nr doesnt match the chassis number. But probably this was already the case when Papler put their modified bodies on an existing chassis.
