1951 Porsche 356 Split Window Coupé – D’Ieteren Delivery – Black This very early Porsche 356 Split Window Coupé dates from 1951, the first full production year of the Porsche 356 in Stuttgart. The car was originally imported and delivered by D’Ieteren, one of Porsche’s earliest importers outside Germany. D’Ieteren signed an import agreement with Porsche in 1950, becoming the fourth Porsche importer outside Germany. Although D’Ieteren would later assemble Porsche 356 models in Belgium, this did not begin until 1961. This 1951 example was therefore imported by D’Ieteren but built in Stuttgart, Germany. One of the most characteristic features of this early 356 is its split windscreen (Geteilte Frontscheibe). At the time, producing a large curved windscreen was technically difficult and expensive, resulting in the distinctive two-piece windscreen found on these very early cars. This design was only used for a relatively short period and has become one of the most recognizable features of the earliest Porsche 356 models. The car also features the characteristic pointed roofline, minimalist dashboard, slim bumpers and several unique period-correct interior details. Its body has been restored, while retaining the distinctive appearance and details associated with these early 356 models. The car is equipped with a 1200 cc engine. This 356 represents an important period in Porsche’s early production history.
